Pesaro develops along a coastline overlooking the Adriatic Sea, slightly protruding.
The city has a double coastline: to the west with Monte San Bartolo (regional natural park) behind it which separates it from the Romagna coast, to the east with Monte Ardizio behind it which separates it from the Fano plain (we usually go to sea in the stretch below the Ardizio).
Both connote, with their cliffs, a unique and never flat maritime territory. At the center of the two branches of the coast, there is the splendid ball ('Palla') by Arnaldo Pomodoro, a modern sculpture, located in Piazza della Libertà, where ideally the axis of the decumanus, coming from Piazza del Popolo, reaches the sea.
Then treat yourself to a short tour on the so-called "Panoramica", a scenic road that connects Pesaro with Gabicce passing through the hills overlooking the sea of the San Bartolo park.
On the Panoramica there are the villages of Fiorenzuola, Castel di Mezzo and Gabicce Monte which are worth a visit, there are also many restaurants and pizzerias with a view of the sea (from Gabicce Monte you can see the sunset on the coast of Romagna).
To visit the beaches, you will find a wide choice of bathrooms with the possibility of renting, if you wish, deck chairs and umbrellas.
Our suggestion, especially at the weekend, is not to use the car but go on foot or by bicycle.
There is also the free beach below the mountain on the Fano side (reachable by car, bicycle or on foot) and one below Fiorenzuola, the latter a truly unique beach, very wild and for a few brave people willing to go down and up the 170 meters of difference in altitude which they separate it from the last useful parking space... with all the necessary equipment on our shoulders (including the water supply!)
Don't forget to take a walk to the port of Pesaro in the evening: from there you can enjoy, in addition to aperitifs, splendid sunsets, which - in the evenings around the summer solstice - ... ends up in the sea despite the exposure of the east coast!!
